Professor Nongjian Tao

(1963 – 2020)

Welcome to this memorial website of Professor Nongjian Tao.

Professor Nongjian ‘NJ’ Tao, a paragon of nanoscience, was lost to our community at the early age of 56. A true polymath, with interests in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and business, his wide-reaching interests and expertise allowed him to make great advances in nanoscale measurements in a wide range of areas including molecular electronics, optical imaging and biosensing. He is most well-known for the development of techniques for electrically contacting and interrogating molecular electronic devices. But he will be remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, students and postdocs for his kind personality, gentle spirit, unassuming demeanour, passion for science and intellectual brilliance.(*Nature Nano., 2020,15, 345)

This website is dedicated to sharing of our remembrance of this great man.  Contributors are invited to share anecdotes about Professor Tao, your personal encounters with him, old photographs and your sentiments on how he has touched your life. Inputs gathered at this website will be organized and saved as part of the NJ Tao symposium planned to held at Arizona State University, a copy of which will also be delivered to Mrs. Tao for her keepsake. We welcome everyone to join in the sharing process.

May we together bring forth our lasting memories of our dear Professor NJ Tao.
